Futures down this morning. Shades will not be needed. Crude down also. Gold is showing green, much to the delight of King Midas. Bitcoin up for no reason at all. A typical event for Bitcoin. Virus seems to have a hold of Mr. Market today. Another day where there is enough reason to drive stocks down. Will it be followed by a day where the fear is lessened as it was last week? The surge in buying in stocks that investors perceive may benefit from the coronavirus outbreak continues this morning. The outbreak, mainly in China, has spread to Hong Kong. Nearly 2,800 people in China have been infected and 80 killed by the disease, and over the last week, both numbers have been rising at close to 50% a day. "We don't know how infectious it is, we don't know how severe it is, and we don’t know how it's spreading," said Tom Frieden, former director of the CDC. The old triple play of not knowing things. Yikes. Boeing news this morning is brought to you by Boeing, of course. Tesla making news on Rivian news. Rivian expects to have their EV pickup ready by the end of the year while Tesla's pickup, the Cybertruck, won't be seen until the end of 2021 and the end of 2022 for the cheapest model. I would say that Rivian, if they are able to bring this to market, has quite a lead in the EV pickup market based on the timelines. It appears from the comments on this news that Tesla folks are having some trouble processing that there is competition out there and more will be coming. Competition is a good thing and Tesla should embrace this as a way to show how superior their vehicles are. Nothing on the death of Kobe Bryant and how this might impact Nike? That's too bad. The man was so much more than just an outstanding basketball player. Peace go with him, his daughter, and the seven others who died in the crash. Bernie Sanders goes after Jamie Dimon in a new campaign ad, labeling the JPMorgan Chase & Co. chief executive officer “the biggest corporate socialist in America today.” My apologies for mixing politics and investing but there is no way to keep them apart in this case.notes via user dcv
