Market rocketed higher, responding positively to France’s preliminary election results. No change is good news, the markets decided. The usual suspects jumped, including financials and basic materials.1.Stocks in the Basic materials that jumped include AK Steel (AKS). An analyst upgraded the steel market. Value investors with a conservative appetite for risk should look at Vale (VALE), BHP, and RIO.2.Financials benefited from the post-France election results. DB and SAN shot higher. In the U.S., BAC, C, WFC, JPM, MS, all jumped. Chasing the rally is not advisable.3.Just after one reader / follower wondered why Micron Technology (MU) was not mentioned in the evening notes, an analyst wrote that MU was one of many short-selling ideas. This analyst must believe in something we do not. MU has tremendous cash flow growth, revenue and earnings acceleration for many quarters to come.4.Nokia Corporation (NOK), which is due to report results on Thursday, is holding the $5.35 range. The earnings beat odds are 50/50. Last quarter, NOK’s networking unit beat estimates. The quarter before that, management lowered outlook and reported poor results.5.Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX) is fighting to hold $8.50 - $9.00. The stock’s outlook is uncertain. Give management time to ramp up sales force hires and pushing for better sales as new drugs come to market. SILIQ’s initial launch sales will move VRX’s stock price in the near-term.6.In the energy sector, Chesapeake Energy (CHK) did not participate in the market’s bounce. Look at PBR (Petrobras), BP plc (BP), COP, CVX, XOM, instead.7.Dryships (DRYS) fell ~14% on the day and is a sucker for bag holders. If you still hold this, sell it and get whatever’s left.8.BlackBerry’s (BBRY) share price is finding support in the $9’s. $10 PT. Its upside depends on Chen leading the company’s software sales acceleration. BES UEM is the core product driving sales and profit margins (through app sales, support contracts).9.The bear market phase in generic drug stock suppliers is nearing. Watch Teva Pharmaceuticals (TEVA), Endo International (ENDP), and VRX. Mylan (MYL) getting sued by Sanofi (SNY) is negative. Teva’s ~ yearly low is a worry.10.Join Value Stocks via a stockTwits login. “Like” this post to “ping” a signal to other Value Stocks group members.Note: in last week's mention of Sony (SNE), the downside entry price was $31, not $21. Sony reported solid results. Nintendo may follow.
